José Antonio Abreu was a Venezuelan musician and orchestra conductor that founded the “Sistema Nacional de Orquestas” (National Network of Orchestras).
This publicly-financed music program aims to provide musical training and education as a way to help at-risk children and youth.
Founded in 1975, the program quickly gained national and international recognition, and it’s currently formed by over 180 youth and children’s orchestras.
