Easy Podcast: El grito de Dolores

On September 16, 1860, priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla uttered a cry for Mexican freedom and independence in the town of Nuestra Señora de Dolores.

Hidalgo’s powerful speech against the Spanish government and his call to arms, known as “el grito de Dolores”, ignited a revolution that triggered the Mexican War of Independence.

Now, every September 15, millions of Mexicans gather at night in the main parks, plazas and esplanades to recreate and honor the event that led to their independence.
