The molcajete is a pre-Hispanic mortar used in traditional Mexican cuisine to grind grains, herbs, spices and vegetables.
Typically made from volcanic rock, preparing foods or seasonings with a molcajete allow for richer and more complex flavors and textures, and it can even be used to serve meals, both in family gatherings or restaurants.
Although other countries have tried to replicate this utensil, the quality of the Mexican molcajete bears no comparison.
