Diego Rodríguez de Silva y Velázquez was the leading artist in the court of King Philip IV and one of the most important painters of the Baroque period and the Spanish Golden Age.
Originally from Seville, Velazquez is perhaps best remembered for his numerous portraits of the Spanish royal family and other prominent figures of his time, particularly his masterpiece Las Meninas which continues to mesmerize art lovers all over the world.
