Tepito is a barrio located in Colonia Morelos, north of Mexico City, that dates back to the pre-Hispanic era.
This neighborhood is the hometown of many prominent figures in the world of sports (particularly boxing), cinema, music and other artistic movements, and it’s famous for its tianguis (street markets) where tourists and locals alike can find a wide-range of products.
However, Tepito also has a bit of a bad reputation due to its high crime rates, informal economy, and social struggles, earning it the name of “Barrio bravo” (fierce / rough neighborhood).
