During the 1850s, a gold rush in the south of Venezuela caught the attention of locals and foreigners alike.
A great number of those immigrants came from Trinidad and Tobago who brought with them their signature music style: Calypso.
As a result of these new linguistic and cultural influences, English expressions made their way into the region’s musical tradition which continue to be popular today, in particular during Carnival season.
