SUMMARY:Street Art Spanish Tour: Hispanic Harlem\, a History of Class Struggle
DESCRIPTION:Practice your Spanish while we explore the vibrant streets of Hispanic Harlem! \nStreet art can tell us a lot about a community\, its history and its culture. This is the case of many murals alongside El Barrio which reflect the realities of the Hispanic community in the United States and Caribbean. \nDuring our tour\, we’ll walk around admiring different pieces of street art and discussing their social\, cultural\, and historic context. We’ll also talk about their artists\, their fight for Human Rights and their profound commitment to their cultural and social life. \nWe’ll start our journey in front of the First Spanish United Methodist Church on 111 St (this church has an interesting history; it was occupied by The Young Lords in 1969). \nAfter\, we’ll grab some delicious Puerto Rican food and enjoy more Spanish conversation. \nLike always\, the tour will be conducted mainly in Spanish\, with some English to help you understand some facts and concepts. \nSpanish level: All levels are welcome\, but some knowledge of Spanish is highly recommended. \nWhere: First Spanish United Methodist Church. 163 E 111th St · New York\, NY \nMeeting point: Meet the group in front of the church.
