Easy Podcast: La fanesca, un delicioso platillo ecuatoriano

Fanesca is a traditional dish from Ecuador that it’s only eaten during Semana Santa (Holy Week).

This traditional dish represents Ecuadorean multiethnic society and it’s a true example of its cultural syncretism. Dating back to pre-Hispanic times, la fanesca was part of the Pawkar Raymi (Fiesta del florecimiento or March equinox celebrations).

After the arrival of the Spanish colonizers, la fanesca became part of the Holy Week and Easter festivities made primarily with twelve types of beans and grains that symbolize the 12 apostles and cod fish representing Christ.
