The Garifuna are a mixed African and indigenous people (Arawak and Callinagu) originally from the Caribbean island of St. Vincent who resisted European settlement until the 18th century.
After surviving many wars and displacements, the current majority of Garifuna descendants reside in Honduras, Belize, Guatemala, Nicaragua and even the United States.
