Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz was a Mexican writer, poet, theologian, and philosopher who lived in the 17th century, but was vastly ahead of her time.
From her convent, Sor Juana devoted herself to her studies, was frequentedly visited by members of the nobility and the intellectual class, and became a passionate advocate for women’s rights to education and to break free from gender roles and patriarchal constraints.
