Nezahualcóyotl was the ruler of the city-state of Texcoco, in pre-Columbian Mexico.
Nezahualcóyotl was a prolific scholar, architect, and engineer who designed and oversaw the construction of schools, roads, temples, dams, markets, and gardens, to name a few of his achievements.
However, his verses earned him the reputation of “poet king”, many of which are still in existence.
