Charango, the sweet sound of the Andes

The charango is a traditional string instrument from the Andes. Similar to a guitar, but smaller and with a higher pitch, it has a sweet, melodic and very distinctive sound.

There are many theories and legends that account for the origins of this popular Andean instrument, but most agree that the charango is a native interpretation of the musical instruments introduced in the New World by the Spanish colonizers.
