[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]We use ningún, ninguno and ninguna to indicate that something or someone does not exist at the moment of speaking. They belong to the category of indefinidos adjectives and pronouns; we use los indefinidos to talk about people or things in non-specific terms.

Let’s take a look at the uses of ningún, ninguno and ninguna:

1. Ningún and ninguna are adjetivos indefinidos that mean “ni uno” (“not even one” / “none” / “no + noun”) and we place them in front of the noun. We only use them in the singular. Ningún is the short form of ninguno and we use it in front of masculine nouns:

Ninguno y ninguna can also work as pronombres when replacing the noun altogether and they also mean “ni uno”:

Sometimes ninguno and ninguna can be part of a phrase. In these cases, the verb must agree with the indefinido:

2. When the indefinidos and their corresponding nouns go after the verb, the sentence must start with the negative adverb ‘no’. If the adjetivos indefinidos and their nouns come before the verb, it’s not necessary to add anything:
3. As adjectives, ninguno, ningún and ninguna can also express “nada de”. In these cases, ninguno goes after the noun, ningún before the noun, and ninguna can go either before or after:
4. Last, but not least, we can also use ningún and ninguna as adjectives to mean“uno”:
