Your roadmap from beginner to fluent Spanish-speaker
Do you freeze up when you have to speak Spanish? You fear you’ll never sound like a real native-speaker? Here’s your full road-map: from “Hola” to deep conversation about the topics you love. Every level, every step of the way, every transformation.
This is how your Spanish progress works
At Easy Español we follow the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), the international standard to measure linguistic competence. But, like Jorge says: “Spanish is the vehicle; your transformation is the destination”. We don’t just stick to the theory: we turn every Spanish level into real skills that you will use from week 1.
Your Spanish journey has 4 main stages, each one made up of specific levels that bring you one step closer to being a fluent speaker. It doesn’t matter if you’re starting from scratch or if you already have some previous Spanish knowledge: there’s always a clear next step for you to take.
The 4 stages of your Spanish transformation
We know what you’re thinking: “How long will it really take me?”, “Will I be able to get there with my Spanish?”, “What if I’m too old to learn?”.
The answer: each one of our students came in with the exact same doubts, and they all made great progress. We’re going to show you exactly how you can do it as well:
A
Beginners
Levels: A1, A2.
Approximate duration: 3-6 months.
Available courses: Spanish 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
On this stage, you go from zero Spanish to being able to have basic conversations about yourself, your family, your job, and your plans. You learn to introduce yourself with confidence, to order food at a restaurant, to ask and give directions, to talk about your likes and preferences, your childhood and your past.
A1 ⇒
- Total Beginners = Spanish 1
- Lower Beginners I, II = Spanish 2
- Middle Beginners I, II = Spanish 3
A2 ⇒
- Upper Beginners I, II = Spanish 4
- Higher Beginners I, II = Spanish 5
B
Intermediates
Levels: B1, B2.
Approximate duration: 6-14 months.
Available courses: Spanish 6, 7, 8.
Here’s when everything changes. You start to think in Spanish rather than translating from English. You can explain your points of view, understand the news, watch movies with subtitles, and have conversations on some how complex topics. Most of our students reach the B1 level in 6-8 months of regular and constant study.
B1 ⇒
- Lower Intermediate I, II = Spanish 6
- Middle Intermediate I, II = Spanish 7
B2 ⇒
- Higher Intermediate I, II = Spanish 8
C
Advanced
Levels: C1.
Approximate duration: 12-18 months.
Available courses: Spanish 9, 10.
You no longer “study” Spanish; you live it. You can read literature, participate in debates, understand cultural humor, and express complex and abstract ideas. Your conversations flow naturally, without having to constantly look up words. You can debate and make arguments with ease.
C1 ⇒
- Middle Avanced I, II = Spanish 9
- Higher Advanced I, II = Spanish 10
C
Superior
Levels: C2.
Approximate duration: 18+ months.
Available courses: Spanish 11, 12.
Native-like fluency. You can use Spanish in your professional life: prepare complex reports, negotiate contracts and understand cultural subtleties. This is the level that our students have when they move to Spanish-speaking countries or they work on international teams. You’ve reached a level of Spanish competency that makes you almost fully bilingual.
C2 ⇒
- Superior I = Spanish 11
- Superior II = Spanish 12
Your staircase to Spanish fluency
Every step represents a level that you will master. There are no shortcuts, but also no mysteries: you know exactly where you are and what comes next.
It’s not about how long it takes you, it’s about making sure every step you take is on solid ground. Some students climb faster (2-3 classes per week), while others prefer a more relaxed pace (1 class per week). Both make it to the top, we just help you find the right pace for your life style.
This is what you will learn every level
You will be able to:
- Introduce and talk about yourself.
- Order food and drinks at a restaurant.
- Ask for and give basic directions.
- Talk about your family and job.
- Understand basic phrases in slow-paced conversations.
Example of a typical conversation you will be able to have: “Hi, my name is Sarah. I’m from New York and I work in marketing. I like coffee and travelling. How about you?”
Standard duration: 4-6 weeks, taking 2 lessons per week.
You will be able to:
- Describe past experiences and future plans.
- Express likes and preferences with simple arguments.
- Understand the main ideas in simple texts.
- Communicate in everyday situations (stores, transportations).
- Compose basic messages and emails.
Example of a typical conversation you will be able to have: “Last weekend I went to a Mexican restaurant with my family. The food was delicious. Next month I’m going to Spain for the first time. I’m so excited.”
Standard duration: 8-10 additional weeks.
You will be able to:
- Talk about your work in detail.
- Explain your plans and future projects.
- Understand basic news on TV.
- Handle unforeseen situations during trips.
- Write cohesive texts on familiar topics.
Example of a typical conversation you will be able to have: “My company is developing a new product for the Latin American market. Although there are some challenges ahead, I think we have a good shot. My team is very motivated and we hope to launch it by June.”
Standard duration: 3-4 months, taking 2 classes per week.
The “aha” moment: This is the level where everything changes. You stop translating everything on your head and you start to think in Spanish. As Jorge likes to say: “My students talk to CEOs, not with books”. The B1 level is where this becomes a reality.
You will be able to:
- Actively participate on debates and discussions.
- Understand movies and TV shows without subtitles.
- Read complex articles and contemporary literature.
- Express your opinion with precise arguments
- Write persuasive and analytical texts.
Example of a typical conversation you will be able to have: “I believe artificial intelligence will completely transform our industry in the next five years. Although some fear that it will take over people’s jobs, I see more opportunities than threats if we start adapting now…”
Standard duration: 6-8 additional months.
You will be able to:
- Understand long and complex texts.
- Express yourself with fluency without needing to constantly look up words.
- Use Spanish with ease in social and professional contexts.
- Understand implied meanings and cultural humor.
- Compose complex and well-structured texts.
Example of a typical conversation you will be able to have: "I was born and raised in Texas. My ancestors were from Mexico, but I never spoke Spanish when I was little. I always felt that there was something missing in my life; that my cultural identity was blurred and I could not see my true face. I decided to learn Spanish and now I can read Don Quijote in Spanish and have meaningful conversations."
Standard duration: 10-15 additional months.
You will be able to:
- Understand practically everything that you read or listen.
- Sum up information from different sources.
- Express yourself with nuanced precision.
- Use Spanish professionally without any limitations.
- Almost native-like command of the Spanish language.
Example of a typical conversation you will be able to have: “I'm a full time professor in economics at New York University and reciently I was invited to give a talk at Universidad Complutense de Madrid, in Spanish!”. / “Spanish Barroque is a fascinanting art movement from XVI Century. We can see the best Barroque manifestation in the chucrches of Latin America of that period.”
Standard duration: 18-24 months of consistent study.
“I don’t have enough time” “I’m too old for this” “I’ve tried everything and I still can’t speak any Spanish” We hear these phrases every week. And every week we prove to our students that these are just fears, not realities.
How long will it take me specifically to learn Spanish?
The speed of your progress depends on several factors, which can be tailored to your lifestyle:
Class frequency:
- 1 lesson per week: Constant, but unhurried progress.
- 2 lessons per week: The optimal pace for most students (strongly recommended).
- 3+ lessons per week: Accelerated progress (intensive program).
Language exposure outside of class:
- Watching Spanish TV shows: +20% in speed.
- Attending our cultural events: +15% in speed.
- Extra practice during TALK sessions: +25% in speed.
- Joining our Community of Spanish-speakers: invaluable for your motivation.
Previous language experience:
- If you already speak another language (Italian, French, etc): Faster progress.
- If you only speak English: Not a problema, we just need to adjust expectations.
- Age is NOT a factor: We have students ranging from 8 to 80 and their progress is the same.
Your personal motivation:
As Jorge always says: “If our method works for a 60-year old Japanese banker, then it can work for you.” Our fast-progress students are not smarter than the rest; they’re just more motivated. If you have a powerful motivation (family, work, travel, passion-project), then your brain will learn faster.
