Description
During our first course on movies made by Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar, we analyzed some of the most important movies of this internationally renowned filmmaker that has earned two Academy Awards and five nominations, two Golden Globes, and multiple awards in the top international film festivals. During this second course on Pedro Almodóvar, we will take a closer look at his film aesthetic, his eccentric characters, and his female characters that portray strong, feisty women who are often on the verge of a nervous breakdown.
During this course we will expand our analysis of his comedies and dramas, his love for the weird and the surreal, and his detailed film portrayals of the most significant social changes in contemporary Spain.
Students will first watch the movies on their own before each class, and during the sessions we will discuss key aspects about the films. The course will be guided by Juan Trouillhet, professor from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and Spanish film and literature expert. Students will be provided texts, interviews, reviews and other information on each movie to enrich their experience as well as links or streaming sites recommendations to watch the movies. Please note that the movies themselves are not part of the course.
