Live Online Lecture: LA DIETA DE LOS MEXICAS (and the Wonders of the Chinampas)
January 28, 2023 @ 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM EST
Join us on Saturday, January 28th at 3:00 pm for a virtual lecture about the diet of the Mexica people from Mexico and their amazing agricultural system.
Despite the fact that the Mexicas, and the pre-Hispanic world in general, did not have large animals to feed on, they did have a great mixture of smaller animals, insects, and a great variety of vegetables and fruits, which made their diet incredibly rich and nutritious. Today, many of those ingredients are still used in Mexican cuisine.
Mexican historian Luz Elena will talk about the nutritious, sustainable and delicious diet of the Mexica people before the arrival of the Europeans to what is now Mexico. What did they eat? How did they cultivate the land? Was there enough food for everybody? These and many other questions will be addressed during the lecture. The talk will be in Spanish with English for clarification. At the end of the presentation, there will be a section for questions and answers in English and Spanish.
Virtual lecture will be conducted in Spanish with English used for clarification.
