Virtual Art Visit in Spanish: Fashion, Power and Destiny

Let’s talk about arte en español!
During this month’s virtual tour, we’ll head to the Prado Museum to admire and analyze the painting Queen Margaret of Austria by Juan Pantoja de la Cruz.
While on the surface, this painting might look like a simple royal portrait, Pantoja de la Cruz’ masterful work is anything but. Daughter of the Archduke of Austria -Styria and wife of King Philip III of Spain, this powerful painting shows Queen Margaret wearing “the so-called “Rich jewel”, a dynastic heirloom comprising the diamond known as “El estanque” (The Pool) and the famous large pearl known as “La peregrina” (The Pilgrim)”.
Come practice your Spanish while learning more about the social, cultural and political background of this portrait. Plus, pick up great tips to interpret paintings beyond the surface of their canvas.
The talk will be in Spanish with English for clarification only.
