Los ‘Genízaros’ y la historia de Nuevo Mexico

During the time of the Spanish ruling in America, there originated in New Mexico a community of detribalized Native Americans known as “Genízaros”. Although originally traded as slaves by the Spanish, in time they began to acquire rights, even if they were frequently marginalized.

Currently, the Genizaros community still represents a significant portion of New Mexico’s population.
