La Venus de Valdivia

The archaeological culture of the Valdivia dates back to the Pre-Columbian era, and its remains can be found on the western coast of Ecuador. Among the many artifacts recovered from the Valvidia culture, no other has captured the attention of the world as the “Venus”, feminine ceramic figures.

Each figurine is unique and some characteristics, such as their hairstyle, are believed to represent social rank. However, no one knows for certain what was the purpose of these figurines and why they were so important in the Valdivia culture.
