Chuchumbé is a musical genre from Mexico that was born from the fusion between Mexican and African rhythms during colonial times.
Particularly popular in the Veracruz region, el chuchumbé is known for its sensual dances and sexual and satirical lyrics that poked fun at the Catholic Church. As a result, the Church attempted to ban this musical genre, but its popularity lived on.
