ORIGEN: Este término proviene del latín pusillanĭmis, que a su vez está formado por los términos pusillus (“diminuto”) y anima (“espíritu”).
DEFINICIÓN: De acuerdo al Diccionario de la lengua española, una persona pusilánime es aquella que no tiene el ánimo o el valor para tomar una decisión o enfrentar una situaciones difíciles.
TIPO: Es un adjetivo invariable (es decir, no cambia su forma a masculino o femenino) que también se puede usar como sustantivo. Su plural se forma añadiendo la ‘s’ final (pusilánimes). Es una palabra esdrújula de 5 sílabas: pu-si-LÁ-ni-me.
CORRESPONDENCIA EN INGLÉS: timid, faint-hearted, wimp, coward.
USO:
- No seas pusilánime. Tienes que llamarla y decirle la verdad. Don’t be a coward. You must call her and tell her the truth.
