Juan Ponce de León was a Spanish explorer and conquistador who served as the first governor of Puerto Rico and was the first European to arrive to what is now the state of Florida.
After sailing to the New World during Columbus’ second journey, Ponce de León took part in exploring and establishing Spanish colonies in many different territories, but he is perhaps best remembered for his role in the legend of the Fountain of Youth.
