Adverbs of frequency indicate how often something is done. Let’s take a look at some of the most commonly used frequency phrases!
1. Siempre (Always)
- Siempre se levanta a las 6am. She always gets up at 6am.
- Ellos siempre llegan tarde a todas las reuniones. They always arrive late to every meeting.
2. Casi siempre (Most of the time, almost everytime, almost always)
- Pedro casi siempre va a la oficina los sábados por la mañana. Pedro almost always goes to the office on Saturday mornings.
- Casi siempre vamos a casa de la abuela los domingos. We go to Grandma’s house almost every Sunday.
3. Muchas veces (A lot of times, many times)
- Visitamos España muchas veces; nos encanta este país. We’ve visited Spain many times; we love this country.
- Ya has leído este libro muchas veces, ¿por qué no lees uno nuevo? You’ve read this book many times, why don’t you read a new one?
4. Frecuentemente (frequently)
- Ella viaja frecuentemente por trabajo. She travels frequently for work.
- En primavera llueve frecuentemente. It rains frequently during Spring.
5. A menudo (Often)
- A menudo trabajamos hasta tarde. We often work late.
- Él visita a sus padres a menudo. He visits his parents often.
6. A veces, algunas veces (Sometimes)
- A veces voy a caminar por el parque después del trabajo. Sometimes I go for a walk on the park after work.
- Algunas veces bebo té, pero prefiero el café. Sometimes I drink tea, but rather have coffee.
7. De vez en cuando (Every now and then, from time to time)
- Vamos a la playa de vez en cuando. We go to the beach every now and then.
- De vez en cuando cocina, pero prefiere ir a comer afuera. He cooks every now and then, but he rather eat out.
8. Raras veces, pocas veces (Few times, seldom, not often)
- Rara vez sale sin su celular. He seldom goes out without his cellphone.
- Hemos hablado pocas veces; no lo conozco mucho. We’ve spoken a few times; I don’t know him very well.
9. Casi nunca (Hardly ever, almost never)
- Casi nunca me levanto antes de las 8 am. I hardly ever get up before 8 am.
- Juan casi nunca va al gimnasio. Juan almost never goes to the gym.
10. Nunca (Never)
- Ella nunca se acuesta antes de la 1 am. She never goes to bed before 1 am.
- Nunca hemos visitado Colombia. We’ve never been to Colombia.
