The Carretera Panamericana (Pan-American Highway) is a network of roads that links the American continent, from Argentina in the south to Alaska in the north.
Officially inaugurated in 1963, the Carretera Panamericana is the world’s longest “motorable road”, according to Guinness World Records; however, the highway is broken by a stretch of rainforest in Colombia called the Darién Gap where vehicles must be carried by boat to continue their journey.
