Las posadas mexicanas are a popular Christmas tradition that takes place during the nine days leading to December 25th, representing Joseph’s and Mary’s quest to find lodging (posada) before the birth of Christ.
Nonetheless, as with many Mexican celebrations, this tradition can be traced back to pre-Hispanic times where the Aztec devoted the month of December to honoring the war god Huitzilopochtili.
